Comedian Along Cham, or Muhammad Nizamudin Ahmad, 41, was released without acquittal (DNAA) for charges of possessing cannabis at the Sepang Sessions Court yesterday.
The decision was met with a prostration of gratitude by Along, who was standing in the accused dock. However, the comedian still faces two other drug-related charges, which have been brought to the Magistrate’s Court.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Nurul Faraheen Yahya informed the court that, based on the chemical report, the charge under Section 39A(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act (DDA) 1952 was amended to a lighter charge and transferred to the Magistrate’s Court.
“The charge under this section (39A(2)) is DNAA… you will be charged in the Magistrate’s Court because your charge has been amended,” she said.
At the Magistrate’s Court, Along faces two charges—possessing cannabis weighing 49.61 grams and consuming a substance suspected to be tetrahydrocannibol (THC) in December last year.
Along pleaded not guilty to both charges and was granted bail of RM5,000. The next mention of the case and submission of the chemical report is scheduled for April 7. – BOOM!
